Simo Häyhä (1905-2002)
A Finnish soldier, Häyhä became famous as a sharpshooter during the Winter War which started in November 1939 and ended in March 1940. He was feared greatly by the Red Army, who gave him the nickname "White Death". He is reported as having killed 505 men, making him the most lethal sniper in history. In 1940 a Russian soldier shot him through the jaw with an exploding bullet. After the war he retired to a farm and bred dogs.
